By now you’ve probably noticed there’s something a little different about this issue. Matt Mason appears on the back cover as our featured True|Man. Why? Largely because of his investment in this magazine, including the fact that he gets credit for this “flipside” concept, (being referred to by those in the know as “like the Spiegel catalog.”) When we shared with Matt that we felt it was time to include more about the guys, he suggested this approach and we virtually kicked ourselves for not thinking of it first! ![]() Matt has been the man behind the lens who has captured our last three cover shots. From having to lie on the damp grass, to coordinating dancers and preschoolers, climbing on ladders and setting studio lights just right, he has gone above and beyond to capture the essence of our beautiful True|Women. In addition to photography, Matt is a personal and professional coach. He applies best practices to all of his endeavors, and remains as charming as he is effective. We asked him a few questions that would allow our readers to know more about what’s inside this multi-faceted man: T|W: Tell us about your EndGame Coaching business. MM: My motto is Excel at the Game You Were Meant to Play. It is exciting to help people figure out what it is they were put on this earth to do. Often through the coaching process they stop striving and start thriving! They find that sweet spot in life and I help them stay there. I truly believe that through my coaching profession I am living the life I was meant to play. My personal mission statement is “bear fruit that lasts.” I believe that every day I help someone live the life they were meant to live, I am fulfilling that mission. T|W: You appear to be quite an athlete. Has this always been the case? MM: No, actually. In 2003 my lifestyle had caused me to become overweight and easily exhausted. I consciously made the changes necessary to lose and keep off the extra 50 pounds I had gained, and return to a competitive level of fitness. In June 2005 John Palmer (Lake Geneva, WI) and I successfully completed the Race Across America – biking across the United States in 9 days 14 hours, completing our goal of finishing within the deadline. We were called Team Wisconsin, but we may have also been named Team Average Joes, because the competition was so much more experienced and prepared. I have since competed in an Iron Man triathlon and an eight-week 107 mile swim challenge. It is fascinating to experience how much the body can actually endure through ultra distance sports. TW: Who inspires you? MM: My wife Heather. We met while attending Moody Bible Institute and within a few months I was ready to marry her. When she was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in December, 1993 she told me she would understand if I wanted to break up with her. But, my mind was made up and we were married May 16, 1994. Her MS has progressed to an unimaginable paralysis, but through our faith in Jesus Christ she keeps a strong attitude and ministers to everyone around her. She is one of the most gracious individuals I know. And the Lord is a real part of my daily life as well.TW: You have a list of 100 dreams. Please share a few with us. MM: Professionally – I’d like to own and sell 10 successful businesses; achieve worldwide recognition as a photographer; shoot a celebrity wedding and a shuttle launch; and coach 10 people to become successful coaches. Personally – I aim to be a millionaire, or at least financially independent by 45; swim across Lake Geneva, run a mile in less than 7 minutes; raise 100 million dollars for charity; complete the Boston Marathon and Hawaii Iron Man, take Heather on a cruise, and my nephew Owen to Disneyworld. |
