Many who know me also know Jacque Gratz, a dynamo in direct sales. As an independent representative for Gold Canyon, Jacque is at the forefront of most of our public events with her beautifully displayed candles and other scented products.  With long blonde hair and a glowing smile, she’s often near the front door, welcoming everyone with a cheerful greeting. She’s always one of the first to volunteer when help is needed, andJacque Gratz - Gold Canyon Candles freely offers great suggestions and positive energy.

It was with this same burst of energy that she caught me off guard this fall when she walked in to the coffee shop in a grey hooded sweatshirt and said “I got a buck!” Indeed she did, as she showed me the photo here on her cell phone!

Like me, Jacque is the sole female in a house of males. I know from experience, she spends much of her time cooking and caring for, and chasing after and for a busy husband and their two sons. Unlike me, who spends my fall weekends nesting indoors, Jacque hits the woods with the guys, and “fills her freezer!”

She’s actually shot quite a few deer in the past 17 years since her husband Jared bought her “Short Stuff” – her Browning 20-gauge shotgun, for her 18th birthday! “He was away at college in Steven’s Point, studying Wildlife Management and Biology. He asked my Dad if it was okay, and of course it was!” she told me. The family has been hunting together ever since. When she told me she’s never missed a season, I reminded her she probably did when she had the boys. After only a few second’s hesitation she responded, “Nope. I had fall babies. I wasn’t pregnant during hunting - I’ve gone out every season.”

Jacque Gratz with Hunter and a buckJacque and Jared’s boys Austin and Hunter enjoy watching wildlife and spending quiet time in nature with their parents, and Jacque was thrilled Hunter was with her when she got this year’s buck. Because she’s especially busy with her Gold Canyon business during this time of year, she doesn’t spend nearly as much time preparing for and hunting as most men I know. “I just go out there and get it done,” she says candidly. “They aren’t wall hangers for me, they’re freezer fillers.”

Now that is certainly something most of us wouldn’t have guessed about Jacque…
